May 31, photo of the day: Visiting Whidbey

Here it is the last day of the Blogathon, and I’m not sure what I’m going to do without it, it’s become part of my routine!

I’ve learned a bit about how to capture and sustain readers interests (and will hopefully be able to put these idea to good use). I have also learned how a phlog like mine can benefit from both written posts, as well as occasional wordless ones.

I’ve been introduced to many interesting blogs and bloggers, as well as found some new friends and followers for my blog too.

Even though the world is so big, I like that a project like this one can bring some of us together – to meet people and learn new ideas that we may not ever have been introduced to otherwise.

And so, I leave you with a few of my favorite horizon shots from Whidbey Island, as well as a clip of my favorite captain, the one and only Captain Jack.

“Now…bring me that horizon!”

Alphabe-Thursday: B is for bokeh!

I saw lots of things that start with B this week, but since my blog is primarily about photography, I decided to get out my homemade bokeh lens cover and my colorful Christmas lights. When I tried the bokeh lens cover on my 18-55mm lens (with only a 3.5 aperture opening) it didn’t work so well. However, with my new 50mm 1.8 lens I thought it was time to try it again!

What do you think of my heart bokeh?

The little guy is a creation of my sister, isn’t she creative?

The Illuminating Blogger Award

I’ve been nominated for The Illuminating Blogger Award!

This is my first award, and I’m so touched to have someone think my little blog is worthy of such an award. How fun!

The rules:

1. The nominee should visit the award site (http://foodstoriesblog.com/illuminating-blogger-award/) and leave a comment indicating that they have been nominated and by whom. (This step is so important because it’s the only way that we can create a blogroll of award winners).
2. The Nominee should thank the person that nominated them by posting & including a link to their blog.
3. Share one random thing about yourself in your blog post.
4. Select at least five other bloggers that you enjoy reading their illuminating, informative posts and nominate them for the award.
5. Notify your  nominees by leaving a comment on their blog, including a link to the award site (http://foodstoriesblog.com/illuminating-blogger-award/).

One random thing about me:

Um…there are so many!

How about this: Lately I’ve noticed I have a special knack for saying something particularly dorky seconds before I realize there are other people around. Case-in-point: hiking down from a mountain in the Lake Desire area the other day I said loudly to Isaac “What a BEA-yoooo-teee-full view” (in a super dorky accent) just as we rounded a corner and saw two other hikers coming up the trail about 20 feet from us. ;D

My 5 Nominees:

  1. for the intrepid photographers
  2. OstranderBlog
  3. John Harding Photography
  4. A Hardy Perspective
  5. Right in Front of Me

The above blogs are all very illuminating, and I highly recommend you check them all out!

Thank you to Food Stories for nominating me for this award!

May 29th, photo of the day: Lakeside

I took this (with the aid of a ten second timer…) down on the shore of Lake Sammamish.

I had Isaac pose while I set up the shot, then  ran across the sand to join him.

Afterwards I added a lomo effect in PSE as well as a bit of vignetting.

Actually, now that I’m thinking about it, here’s the original:

As Isaac says, they both have their merits. Which is more appealing to you?

Observing Beauty: Water

I was recently invited by Yolanda from over at Chickens on the Moon to join in a weekly photo challenge she’s co-hosting, called Observing Beauty. This week’s prompt: Water.

I found a few drops of water as I wondered through the woods yesterday, and decided to make one of them my subject:

Just a little drop

Everyone is welcome to join, check it out here:

PhotobucketThanks again, Yolanda!
