May 13th, photo of the day: Harbor Island

Dear NOAA, thank you.

I know, I know, you don’t cause the weather, you just report it. Nevertheless, you have made me a very happy girl. Not only have we had wonderful, sunny, and warm weather the past few days, but we are going to get MORE! All the way until Thursday (and maybe beyond)!

*sigh of happiness*

It is so lovely to wake up to sunshine, and to be able to have all the windows open to the outside world is wonderful.

I wonder if this is how it’s going to be all summer? *dares not to hope*

I drove back up to the West Seattle Farmer’s Market today to buy some of that aforementioned rhubarb. I’m planning on entering a strawberry rhubarb pie in the Columbia City Farmers Market Rhubarb Festival.

I also worked my way down to Harbor Island, or as close to it as I could. I’ve been eying those huge cranes ever time we drive into the city, and today I got to photograph one of them.

May 12th, photo of the day: A Sunny Day

It’s been warm and sunny here in the Puget Sound during the last few days, and the streak is supposed to continue through Tuesday! Up until now, we’ve only been honored with one or sometimes two days in a row before the rain and cold move back in.

It’s funny though, because as some of you already know, our apartment is blocked by three giant pine trees on the deck/living room/kitchen side. As I sit here at the kitchen table, I am wearing a sweater and slippers, although it is supposedly in the mid-70′s outside! When I walk into the bedroom I am always surprised to feel the warmth coming in through the window there.

The following photos are from the last time we had warm days, and when Isaac and I visited this shoreline park we both felt as if we were in Southern California! There were so many people, some of them in swimwear enjoying an ice cream cone, and others playing volleyball.

The sun was really bright that day, as you can see, but I love the shadows cast, and even the negative space that is the result of the bright sun, washing out the sky. What do you think?

February 15th: fire and wine

Remember those cinnamon rolls I mentioned yesterday? And how I said I’d made too many so planned on giving them to some of the many homeless people in the area? Yeah, well, about that.

We drove up to Bellevue yesterday to attend the Humane Society volunteer orientation program, and on the way we saw a homeless man standing on the side of the road holding up a sign. It was the first homeless person I’d seen all day, so I was excited to give him some cinnamon rolls. Isaac slowed down the car as we approached and I leaned down to get a package out of the bag. The window was rolled down, and the man saw me lean over. He said “no thanks, I already got a lot of sandwiches today, I don’t need any more” I said something along the lines of “oh, no, these are cinnamon rolls I made this morning, do you want some?” His reply: “no, no thanks.”

I was rejected by a homeless man. My cinnamon rolls were rejected by a homeless man.

Now, don’t get me wrong, I get that people don’t all like cinnamon rolls, and not all people want to take food that some stranger made, but I didn’t think homeless people could be so picky. Not to mention that these are pretty darn delicious cinnamon rolls!

The next homeless guy we saw, I made sure to ask if he wanted them before assuming he would.

Today’s photo is from last night, Isaac and I bought a bunch of cheeses (different delicious kinds) and a bottle of bubbly wine and settled in to watch The Help and Sleepless in Seattle (first time seeing it, thought it was appropriate since I live here now!)

Today’s challenge might be difficult..I have to get a sunflare, but that hard to do with no sun…hmm..

Days Two and Three

Since yesterday was anti-SOPA and PIPA day, this site, along with many others chose to be blacked out in protest.

I still took my photo of the day though!

Here are days two and three.

Warmth of a fire

The chill outside the window

Seattle got a record-breaking 6.8 inches yesterday, and so we spent the day indoors,  sitting by the fire. And so, it became my subject.

Day Three was taken from our balcony, with my 55-200 lens.

I was thinking about all this, and wondering where my photography will be a year from now. What will I be doing? Where will I be living? Will I be working for a photography studio by then? I’m excited to see how this project goes!
