May 1st, photo of the day: Possibilities

Today is the first day of May. And so, I know the phrase I’m about to say is being repeated all over the country, all over the world, but I’m going to say it anyway.

“It’s MAY already?! Where is this year going?”

Okay, I got that off my chest. And..Happy May Day! *hands out flowers*

Today, was a great day. I’m going to tell you why. Today was great because I got a new lens! Yay! It makes me happy.

I’ve been researching and debating and comparing for several months, and I finally narrowed it down to the Nikon 50mm 1.8G. I chose this lens for multiple reasons, including bokeh capability, price, compatibility with my camera, and user reviews. After making that decision, I started calling/checking websites to see where I could get it. I was a little surprised when Amazon was out of stock, and then Fry’s, so I started looking at more local places (better to go local, anyway, right? Support local! No matter that the lens is manufactured in Thailand…) and I called one local place, who referred me to another local place.

When I called Cameras West, the employee I spoke with said they had a waiting list, and I could come in and put my name on the waiting list, but he didn’t know when I would actually be getting the lens.  Well, I was a little saddened by this, after all my research I thought I’d be able to just pick it up off the shelf!

So today I went into Cameras West, and the employee there was a different fellow than the one I spoke to on the phone. He said they had just gotten a shipment in, and lo and behold, there was a Nikon 50mm 1.8G just waiting for me.

This lens purchase made possible by the generosity of my sister, Amanda Ward. She’s a photographer too, in the Southern Oregon area.

Thank you Amanda! Your gift means so much to me.

I took my first photo 5 minutes later, while sitting in the car. :) Then I found a park.

It’s only a tree, but do you see the pretty leaf bokeh? *sigh*

Sweet Shot Day

In blogging news, I’ve decided to participate in the 2012 WordCount Blogathon. This way, I can work on my actual blogging (read: the writing part) skills as well as my photography. Some days I just don’t know what to say, you know?  I’m hoping this will help. If you’d like to join too, head over to WordCount to register.

They’ve put together a list of suggestion post ideas, and if you post every day this month you’re entered to win some sweet prizes!

  1. Getting a new lens is always fun. I use a canon digital camera myself, but Nikons are good, too. I just switched from film to digital last fall. Film is still better for some things, but got expensive to develop!

  2. Congrats on the new lens, great photos! Looking forward to reading your posts for Blogathon! I’m hoping it can get me writing regularly again too.

I want to hear from you! I love comments, and suggestions. Please leave all of yours, here:
