May Seventeenth, Eighteenth, and Nineteenth

You know what this is? You’ll probably never guess. I think it’s in the cucumber family, but it’s not a cucumber…(though probably edible too, I haven’t looked into it.)

It’s a LUFFA  (A.K.A. Loofah) plant!

That’s right, that thing you scrub with in the shower! no, it’s not a sea creature. It’s this plant. Google it if you don’t believe me. And this year, I’m trying to grow them. It’s  tropical plant, so I might end up growing it indoors, and so far, they seem to be happiest in my kitchen window.

They might not look like much yet, but they’re growing bigger everyday!

And these little darlings are outside the front door of the library where I work.

I dunno what they’re called, do you?

Today is my dad’s birthday – HAPPY BIRTHDAY DADDY!

And although he lives far away and I won’t see him today, I did make his favorite cake in cookie form: German Chocolate! Yum!

This is the first time trying this cake-into-cookie idea, and next time, I want the cookie to be less crunchy and more cake-like.

May Sixth

I was trying to come up with a theme for this month, something I could follow and maybe fall back on when my creativity grew thin.

At the start of the month though it was sunny and warm (80 degrees, what??) so my mind was a mush that couldn’t think of anything but sunshine and happiness.

Now though, we’re back in regular Western Washington weather and I’ve had an idea.

I’m going to focus on rain for the rest of the month. Rain, puddles, seedlings splattered with giant raindrops, worms inching across the sidewalk, and so on.

This is my life now, I guess I better embrace it! ;)

August 31st, photo of the day: peeping daisy

I’m not totally sure how I feel about this one.

On one hand I think I like it alright, and on the other I think it might be too hazy…

Also, I’m beginning to think I need a more personalized watermark. Yes, it’s my name, but it’s just that, in a cursive font, and that’s not original. I want to come up with a design or image that I can start using along with my name. Any suggestions? What is your watermark? Have you seen one that stuck with you?

July 22nd, photo of the day: Sweet pinks

Though there aren’t as many blooms out now as there were a couple months ago, if one looks closely enough there is still plenty to see!

I can’t remember what these are called, but I found them sitting demurely on the side of the trail in the Black River Riparian Forest.

It has been fun to be in a place for more than one season, and to be able to see the different seasons come and go. The last time Isaac and I visited here, there were Indian Plum bushes blooming everywhere. Now, though I can still find those plants if I look, they are no longer the main character in the landscape.

July 19th, photo of the day: Petal

This was intended for Ramblings and Photos weekly challenge, but I missed the deadline.

Doesn’t mean I can’t share it anyway! :)

I applied a slight vintage action. I played with it more after this, and I found a few different levels of color, ranging from all b&w to full color, and this was my favorite.

What do you think?
